One of my favorite things to photograph is a 'dancing' or feeding heron or egret. I think it's very exciting to get the action just right. This morning Judy and I were having fun photographing this tri-color and hopefully she got some shots of it too. There are always some flight shots that are pre or post dancing...and they aren't all that bad either. This one has some strong foliage reflection and I was curious to see if you guys think it's too busy or distracting. All help would be appreciated.
It is a fine capture and did get a good reflection !!! I'm fine with the bg, don't think its cluttered I'm just torn between using and not using the reflection? Might do one of each for comparison Without its a very clean image !! Either way you came up with a good one Tack sharp and perfectly exposed !!!
Btw for these type your best bet if figuring a manual setting The meter reading the dark on the left then going to a lighter area on the right will give a totally different reading !!!
Agree with Al's comments. Looks as if you have a pano if you don't use the reflection and still want to include the departure point or do a recrop (if available) from the original.
Hi Matt,
You have a very nice capture, I like the action here....in my opinion, with the strong background, I would eliminate the reflection so that all of the attention is on your subject, If the background were more subdued, desaturated or even blurred, I would leave the reflection....you need one strong anchor point; and thats your bird...looking forward to your next one...
Hi Matt - nice job - I agree with gus - with that BG better off without the reflection - now if it was clear still water that would be a completley different story.
Your exposure is good, you have caught him just in time (before he flew past you) and a good Ha with a nice pose and sharp details - Congrats :)
