    Default IFR landing in snowstorm

Captured at the local bird sanctuary, during one of our frequent snow storms. The light was low, so colors so muted that I thought I would go B&W. The snow in the air was really what made the image for me. Sorry about no catch light in eye!

    Hey Randy,
The snow makes this one for me......and your choice of going B&W was an excellent one. The details in the Canada Goose is excellent also as is the wing and body position. I would probably drop a hint of a catchlight in the eye (not a bright one.....very subtle)....but that is your call! This is very nicely done!

Thanks for the feedback. I will work on the catchlight. I thought about going a little brighter on the image. Do you have a strong feeling one way or the other on that? I didn't want the snow flakes to be too overpowering.

    Thanks

    Randy

Randy, Really nice image and agree w/ Roman on the catchlight-I think the B&W works really well here, the snowflakes make the image!!!! Great job!

    Hey Randy,
I would try it....but you are on the right thought process....don't make them too bright......maybe just a bit on the midtone slider to bring the goose up a hair....but not at the expense of the snowflakes.....need to keep the mood.

Love the snow - yes, it's so well done - but the framing really makes this for me. I really feel like he's ducking (or is that goosing?) down to get to the ground. Wonderful image and very nice conversion. I'd print it!

Really love it with the snow. My suggestion is make it a bit lighter lighter to get more 'glow' in the snow and showing a bit more detail in the face.

Default Lighter version of IFR landing

I tried a lightened version of my goose landing in the snow. I am not sure it has quite the same mood as the orignial, but would appreciate your thoughts. Still not much detail in the face unfortunately.

    Thanks

    Hey Randy,
I actually like the darker version.....maybe only 3 or 4 pts on levels lighter.

    Hi Randy,

hmm, the lighter snow is much better to my taste, the lighter goose not. Maybe somewhere in the middle with a bit more contrast.

    Gus:

Thanks for the reply. The first one really does reflect that day. Snow squalls blowing through all afternoon.

I tend to like my prints, B&W or color, fairly dark, so try to fight that tendency when sharing with others, but I really do prefer the 1st one. Wish I could get more out of birds eyes, but I don't think I could do it and keep it looking real.

    Cheers

    Randy

For my taste the best combo would be the dark sky as the original and a lighter bird but not as light as the second post. The snow adds a huge amount of appeal to this image. You caught it just right....
