    Default Pheasant

    Hi

This photo is another by-product of waiting for some brown hares to appear, as I obviously couldn't resist when this fine looking bird wandered up to me. I love photographing pheasants as they are such beautifully coloured birds. However, their long tail always makes for tricky composition, because to fit the tail in for a side shot you need to be a long way off and start losing detail. So for this bird I decided to go for a head on shot to get round the problem.

    Taken with 1Dmk3 and 500mm lens at ISO 400 F5.6 +0.33 EV at 1/160s.

    Cheers

    Rich:

A very nice pose, handles the tail well I think. Perhaps the UK birds are different from ours, but the saturation looks a smidge high.

I think if you want pictures of brown hares, you should go out to photograph birds. The opposite tack obviously works well!

I like the angle, details and colors. The composition works well, too. Maybe a tad more room at the bottom for the 'virtual feet'.

Hi Rich..this a nice shot of a Green Pheasant (Japanese Pheasant), agree about little more room at bottom for feet, colors on this bird quite different from Ring-Necked...well done, I've never seen one of these .... hopefully in June when I fly across the pond...I may see one

Thanks for the comments. We seem to have three types of pheasant here: the common ring-neck, the one which we call a dark morph, the other type is very dark indeed and possibly the most beautiful. It is the dark one which I always thought was the green pheasant rather than the one shown which looks to be a dark morph.

    Cheers

    Rich
