Note: Could not get away from the harsh side light, thus the shadow cast on the bird's chest...I only had a few moments to make the capture...
I was sitting on the bank of the narrow body of water which runs along side of the road at Shark Valley, Florida Everglades National Park; when this little guy came right in front of me and just stood there eye balling me up and down. He was painted with a Nikon D70s, using a Nikkor AF-S 70-300mm f/4-f/5.6 G lens.

I like the sharpness and the pose, but the light on the off side is a little too harsh for me. I also find the bright green OOF branch in the background a little distracting..
nice little blue heron! a flash would have helped here. looks like you used some S&H to bring out the detail in the dark side of the bird? a little noisy there. love the pose and u got a nice bg too!!
