I belong to a local childrens museum where they also take in injured or adopted critters. Recently they inherited this guy named Otus! He is a screech owl and has an injured wing that keeps him from being able to fly. I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to take a couple shots. They were inside and I didnt want to use a flash so I cranked up the ISO. I used my D300 with 70-200mm at 200mm, f/5.6, 1/30, +1/3 EV, ISO 1600. I've been doing photography for about 1 1/2 yrs so C&C are all appreciated!! :)
Shellie, This is adorable! I agree w/ Axel about the sharpness and I try to remove all but one catchlight in each eye if the image has a few. Great job on this cutie and hope you get a chance for more!!
Very cute, and a poignant stare too. The very slow shutter speed shows up as very slight motion blur (either the subject moved, or the camera shook - the latter most likely if handheld). I kinda wish you'd pull back on the zoom to have more room below the chin. This guy must be a great educational tool for the children, great for them to be able to observe the critters up close :-)
Well done! The catchlights were mentioned also I think that a more evenly-colored background would work nicer. That is so lucky they let the owl live. In my neck of the woods, most wild birds with wing damage that cannot be rehabilitated for release get the "green dream"! :(
