I thought it was time for a non-mammal image. :) This Galapagos Giant Tortoise was photographed in the forested highlands of Santa Cruz Island as it was approaching a grassy/marshy area to feed. 20D, 300 f/4, 1/125, f/8, ISO 400. Full frame. Comments are welcome.

    Hey Steve,
Nice pose on this healthy looking specimen. Good detail and I like how you kept the head in line with the shell. Looks like the birds (or keepers?) have been doing a good job keeping his neck skin free of parasites. Yellow patches some kind of breeding display/colors?

Love the nice alert pose and the good eye contact. Well composed and captured Steve. Thanks for sharing.

Well done Steve but I might try desaturating the greens some.

    Hi Steve,

Aren't these guys amazing? We have been to Galapagos a couple of times, and have seen them at the Darwin Research Center. Haven't been on the islands where they are in their natural habitat, as when we go, it's usually for diving, and the itinerary doesn't include those islands.

Thanks for sharing the photo. I like the composition - I like how he's framed by the foliage.

I'll have to look back at my Darwin Research Center photos.... :)

    Amy D.
