    Default Short-eared Owl

I have had some wonderful opportunities this season with these owls. They have certainly captured me. :)
I patiently waited yesterday for the evening--and was rewarded with some good images. I was packed up and leaving--and on my way back to the truck, when this owl flew in and landed about 30 feet from me. Thank you owl!;) Perch is not ideal--but its placement allowed for the clean bg. (which btw is a manure pile LOL!)

    Hi Bonnie,
Nice feather detail and lovely light angle as well as complimentary BG. I know how it is with these guys. It can take a while to get in close but when you do it is almost magical. I too was out shooting short-ears today at the local estuary. Still working on my flight technique. Hope you get more great shots before they leave for the spring mate. We are down from six to only one at the estuary now.

    Take care,

    Steve

Beautiful pose and nice details. This is one owl that I had the opportunity to get a decent shot of. Congrats.

Nice light on that face Bonnie. These guys are rare visitors down here although I did see a couple about 4 years ago. Nice pose, BG, and complimentary colors.

Great light! I also really like the yellow eyes. The perch does not bother me.

What a beautiful individual!! Too bad it chose that perch, but you take what you can. At least you know they are there and perhaps another time one will choose a beautifully weathered post. The BG colours are very complimentary to the owl, and I love the dried vegetation.

Super pose and light. Sharpness and BG are excellent too. At least the perch has character!

Light, pose, detail, BG, atitude, colors, all is stunnig IMO. Perch is not ideal, but I love it anyway! Congratulations!
