He does look quite sad. I assume this is a captive animal?

Oh sorry, I forgot to mention it. It´s a captive lion in a park. I guess that´s the reason of his sadness... Even so it is beautiful to me...

It is quiet unfortunate. The lion is in a sorry state. Zoos have outlived their utility. I hope we phase out the zoos soon.

He does appear to be sad and an older lion too. Well captured with good detail but I hope tomorrow he will be in better spirits :(

I fully agree with Peter on the conservation part here.

Regarding the photograph, I like how you framed in on the sad expression....but it looks like you went a bit too far in the post-processing....you might want to cut back on the noise-reduction (I assume you used it).

I agree with Peter too. And Jasper's comment are right on in regards to the image. I do like this one, it conveys emotion, always good.

Excellent portrait Jose !!! Love that expression and would suggest going even tighter.

Agree with Jasper on the noise reduction, will reduce sharpness !!!

Great comments on zoos in general. Well laid out and staff they serve a purpose .. the old fashion with caged animals do seem cruel !!!

I agree whole heartedly with Peter and Al. Although we are members of our local zoological society with an excellent local zoo, after three trips to Kenya, we no longer visit our local zoo. It is too distressing to see the animals in captivity. However we fully understand the benefit that zoos provide. Whether it is to maintain the gene pool, captive breeding or just so that people who have not had the benefit of witnessing these incredible creatures in their natural habitat, can observe them. Therefor we continue to support it financially, but it's no longer comfortable going to visit. - John

All other issues aside here, I really feel bad for him. Jose did a great job making me feel for him with this image and is that not what he want most from any image, to feel the emotion.

    Well done Jose.
