    Default Northern Gannet Fly-by

Here's another image from the gannet series that I took last August. The birds kepy buzzing the boat between dives to get fish offal. I had a difficult time trying to capture images without getting in the way of the fishermen and other passengers.

The lighting was constantly changing from sunny to heavy clouds. We got caught on the water in a short hail storm about 10 minutes after this shot was taken.

Rebel XT, Sigma EX APO 50-500mm handheld with Fill flash.
ISO 400 (will post the rest of the specs later).

It's not as sharp as I would have liked but I haven't had much training in taking BIF shots from a rocking boat. ;)

Looks like you had an interesting day Stephen !!!! I know what you mean by a rocking boat and not a lot of light

I like the down wing pose Might have taken the image a tad before not to have the bird going away Would brighten the body more and increase the contrast a bit Love those birds !!!!! Did you get any from the storm?

I went on a few pelagic trips last summer and know what you mean. :) Nice wing position but as Alfred said it would have been great to see the gannet before it passed you.

Beautiful bird, Stephen. Agree with Al's suggestion on the nits--might make it pop a bit more.
    I like the pose.

Cool shot Stephen, I think the repost by Mr Morris creates a stronger image.

Many thanks for all your comments and advice. Artie thanks for the modified version. I was traveling since I first posted this yesterday so I hadn't had time to try and re-work the image again.
