    Default Pine Tree Snowy

    This one is from last weekend also just after sunrise
    Jim Fenton beat us to it and photographed the Owl before it hunkered down a bit

    600mm F4
    1.7 EXT
    F 9.5
    1/1500th
    ISO 200
    Gitzo Tripod
    Wimberley Head

    I like the light and composition. There are jpg artifacts in the sky and the face looks a bit brownish on my monitor, maybe due to the low light.

    I think the artifacts are from compressing to reach below the 200 k limit i had to do a jpeg4 compression

    the color I believe is from the early light as the other pictures from later in the day lighten him up

    I think you are right, with all these needles it's hard to get below 200kB. I had the same problem with crossbill images.

    redid the Photograph with some BG noise reduction and cleaned up the cast

    The colors look better. There was a thread about artifacts the other day. Most people prefer blurring the BG rather than running NR to prevent artifacts.

    Repost looks much better. I really like the fact that this is an image where the snowy is in a tree. Almost all we have seen have the owl on the ground ,which is fine. This just gives a different view.
