I photographed this juvenile Gabar Goshawk in the Kruger Park about a year or so ago. I'm not sure that everybody will like the busy background, but I really enjoy the "in the bush" feel of the image. Would love to know what the other guys think:)

Chris the lighting is just gorgeous in this capture. Really love the pose and the beautiful BG that compliments everything so well. What a great portfolio of Africa you must have. Africa is for me by far the most exciting place I have visited and I hope to return soon. Keep these wonderful images coming. Thanks for sharing.

Light is really good, Chris. I like the vertical comp with the upright thorn branch. Eye contact is great - only small improvement would be slightly better definition of the bill which is blending with the cheek (slightly more or slightly less of a head turn). BG works fine for me - it conveys the habitat and is OOF enough not to be distracting.

A striking image, Chris. Above,Tony conveyed my thoughts exactly so I won't repeat them here.

Tony nailed it here. Great image for all of the above reasons. Love the busy background. Habitats are my favorites!

Lovely image! The warm light and feather detail really make this nice.

Why should habitat always be deemed distracting? The environment deserves to be included unless of course it interferes with the presentation of the bird. I am of the view the background may have been softened too much but that is my view and I think I swim against the tide here :) However, the bird, though not a perfect specimen, is beautifully illustrated in sumptuous light and I'd be happy to have this hang on my wall. The bill not being clearly defined is something I'd live with.

    Nice work.

Beautiful light and detail. The bg is fine. The colors are complimentary and it is oof enough that it doesn't detract from the subject. I do wish the bird had given you a better head turn, but a lovely image all the same.

Love it. Love the BG too. Totally blurred would be less desirable IMHO.

Your image works really well Chris - especially the shared tones of bird and background and the warm light. Very crisp too.
