This is the male of this species. I really liked the balancing act that this fella would do when feeding at this heliconia flower. I hope you enjoy the image :)

Hi, Glenn. Background looks fantastic. I think it's a bit tight in the frame, but I always find these pendent Heliconias hard to compose with for hummingbirds. Just how far do you open things up without other bracts becoming distracting? The light looks great, but I think you could benefit from just a touch more backlight. Great work you're producing down there!

    Cheers,

    Hello Glen.
One more winner from you, that Ecuador trip is rocking.
I agree with Greg about making the BG a bit more light. Hope to see more of your work.

Hi, Juan Carlos. I hope you're well. Just to clear things up, I actually like Glenn's background but was suggesting a bit more backlight or luz de contra :-)

    Cheers,
    Greg

Love the pose, especially the cute positions of those tiny feet. Good head angle and nice spread wing position. The heliconia flower is great for color and scale. The background is a little dark...lightening it somewhat would allow the green plumage of the hummingbird to stand out more. The whole image seems a bit dark to me, and brightening it would strengthen this lovely image.

Beautiful pose and the bird looks great on the heliconia. I have to agree with Linda's comments on lightening the BG and brightening the bird.

Another striking photo. Great wing position and head angle. Agree with others about needing more light on the background. Unless the bird didn't land in your intended target zone - flash setup looks off as maximum light was at very bottom and also didn't really reach the tail. Might also consider using higher ISO ( 400 - 800 ) with smaller apertures ( f18 - f22). Overall still an outstanding image. Good luck next week at Guango
