The original image is a shot of a lighthouse lens. This was a "first-order" lens, which is a Fresnel lens that is 8.5 feet tall. This lighthouse is the Heceta Head (ha-SEA-ta) Lighthouse north of Florence, Oregon, and is one of the five operational lighthouses in Oregon. The public is allowed to climb the spiral staircase up to the lens room, and I patiently waited for just the right moment to push the shutter button. I caught the lens just as it came around to a junction between the elements. I took the image into PS and applied the "glowing edges" filter and this is the result.
