This female Pileated Woodpecker was partially hidden by other logs in her search for something to eat.

    Edward,
I love the portrait. Great detail in the feathers. A nice reflection in the eye. I like the diagonal composition. A very minor nit is that there seems to be a hotspot in the white feathers on the cheek. I would love to have an image like this.

    God's light and love,

    chris

I really like a nice head shot! You controlled the noise quite well for ISO 1600. The whites and some of the reds look a little cooked; you may be able to save them in post-processing. I wish the bird were turned slightly towards you.

Too much noise reduction IMO as you have lost some feather detail, but the sharpness is great despite that and the light and BG are great as well. Agree though with the above comments!

Great portrait. Whites seem to be a little blown. I wish the head was turned toward the viewer a little more.

It's almost as if you could feel the feathers is what I like about this one. As mentioned, a head turn would have made a big difference, still the shot has great feeling.
