his Brown Pelican was photographed at Little Estero Lagoon on the SW FLA President's Week IPT with the Canon 800mm f/5.6L IS lens and the EOS 50D. ISO 320. Evaluative metering -1/3 stop: 1/1000 sec. at f/11. The bird is actually cleaning its bill pouch.
Though standing at full height behind my tripod it appears as if I had gotten fairly low, this due to the great magnification of the 800/50D combo: 25.6X.

Great natural moment and also great profile pose, lovely soft light and very nice colors, great composition and detail too. Congratulaitons Artie, VERY nice shot!
Great timing Artie. I do not think I have ever seen this behavior and it brought a smile to my face this morning. Sharp and excellent detail as well as composition. Thanks for sharing.
Good behavior shot, Artie, but not up to your usual beautiful compositions! Hmmm....low apparent camera angle while standing...another good reason to buy the 800mm for those of us with creaky knees!
Curious why you were at f/11...had you just removed a extender? Also, is this a crop?
Hey Artie,
OK.....Most know by know that I like tighter crops......for me, I would take 1/2 the room above the head.....and just a bit behind the bird to take it of center.....that doesn't feel "too tight" to me......so I have to ask......how do you feel the room above adds to the scene???
BTW Love the action as I haven't seen it B4 either.
