I'm very sure you're tired of those frontal shots you've seen millions of time already. So, here is a break from the norm. And I don't even wow you with a clean background to enjoy :D

    D300 200-400 on mono-pod. Manual exposure mode, no flash. ISO 800 f4.5 1/500 sec.

Cropped. Double-processed to recover some details in the highlight areas.

Thanks for bearing with me :)

    Desmond,

I love the composition and the rim lighting. It really makes the tail standout and glow. On my monitor the left side of the hawk appears just a little to hot. The vertical branch on the left and the one in the upper left corner are distracting. What a beautiful hawk. Nice work on catching the "look"

    God bless,

    Chris

you did catch a nice look from the hawk, but the light killed you. not much you could do.

Desmond don't mind the pose at all, just wish he was turning a little more. Would crop from the left to eliminate those branches and cleans the image well !!!

Light was tough since it was hard left, might tone that area down rather than work on the shade side more. It is different and interesting !!! Glad you went after it !!!!

Desmond..I like the mixed light, quite a bit, and you handled it really well! Agree with Alfred on cropping off the left and maybe toning down the bright side, would be tempted to remove stick UR that is sort of intruding.

    Love the feel.

It is interesting to see how different people read the same element. To me, it is the lighting that I find interesting (I still have details in the bird and also the look). I pretty much know what comments I'd get for this photo, but I still want to see if any one would see things differently :D:D

Hi Desmond, I find sidelight interesting and in this shot it gives me the feel of a cool, crisp early morning. I quite like it.
