Oh yes another Gray. Trying out my new 50D. Still have a lot to learn as it has quite a few differences from my old dead 10D.

Heavily cloudy day with rain and snow showers
    Canon 50D
    RAW
    ISO 800
    Canon 100-400 @ 115mm
    1/100sec @ F5.6
550 EX flash fired through black batting material couldn'tuse high sync flash due to that

    Gaussian blur applied to background
    Selective sharpening on the squirrel

    All CC appreciated.

God's light and precious love to all,

    chris

Nice catch! A pleasing composition and pose. I'm seeing a magenta cast in the fur, most noticeable in the tail.

    Hi Chris Nice squirrel !!

I like the tech settings .. going to 800 is the only way, not sure what exposure mode you were but could have picked up a little shutter speed by going with Av wide open. At 115 you should have been closer to 4.0 Reasonably sharp for the shutter speed .. and great having the entire tail !!!

David any clue as to the tail? I did see the cast but is not pronounced in the head area, check the whites and they are not that far. Has to be some light reflecting !! You got a good eye for colors, I find partial cats difficult to catch !!!

Love the pose Chris, did well on sharpness for the shutter speed!

I can also see the magenta, it is noticeable on the tree branch too

Yeah, I was puzzled by that, too. When you check in the white fur, the green levels are just a little low, giving only a slightly noticeable magenta cast there. Not sure why it's more noticeable in the gray fur, and especially so in the tail. And, as Nonda mentioned, in the tree branch. I wonder if there might be a bit of CA going on in all those little firzzy tail hairs.

Hi Chris - like the composition and the pose - looks like you are having fun with the new camera.

Good pickup on the colour cast David :) :) :)

I've been thinking. Sometimes a scary thing according to some people I know. That perhaps the magenta cast is coming from a reflection off of my house. My feeders are only about 10-12 feet out from the house, the house is cedar and it is stained with a reddish stain that has a mahonony cast to it.

    just hinking aloud.

    God bless,

    chris
