Harold was nice enough to meet up with me and my friend today to shoot Scrub Jays in Jupiter, This is his hand as he was feeding them peanuts! Slight crop-didn't clone the bands as it was clearly a hand of man shot! (couldn't resist):p

Nicely done Lady Denise,
I like this as presented...I was going to suggest to add a tad more room to the left for tail room, but it's fine the way it is...good job...you have good color rendition...sharp details and the pose is a killer...good show...:)now you have a pet to take back with you...:D:cool:
Love this! One of my favorite birds and not easy to get right (I'm still trying). You had some mighty nice light there and I love the sharpness and color rendition. Thank you! :D
Hi Denise
Great shot. Awesome detail - really great pose.
One thing though - you are not actually allowed to feed them - as opposed to many species of bird it is actually bad for their dwindling population.
It is extremely important to note, however, that it is illegal to feed a Florida scrub jay. It is detrimental to their health and even the overall survival of the species: it has been noted that Florida scrub jays that are frequently fed by people reproduce earlier in the year than those who are not fed, and their young have a drastically reduced survival rate. Fledgling scrub jays feed primarily on caterpillars present in the late spring and summer; consequentially, if they hatch too early in the year the caterpillars are not available leading to malnutrition or starvation. Another potential danger of feeding Florida scrub jays occurs when people feed them in the vicinity of a road, as one major cause of death in urban areas is collision with vehicles
Rob, This was my first up-close sighting of a Florida scrub-jay, I had no idea it was illegal or even worse detrimental to their survival, I would never intentionally harm an animal or living being-Thankyou so much for this very important information! I can guarantee that will never happen again-I feel so bad!!!!!!
well that info takes the wind out of my sails. i had no idea either. i would never have done it had an Audubon member not recommended it to me. i trusted that they knew best as conservation is what Audubon is all about.
Hi Denise
I am sorry to have ruined your moment - I had no intention of upsetting you or Harold - I love the shot - And I know you had no intention of hurting the species or any animal for that matter.
I just wanted to let everyone know about the problems faced by the species. I have seen other shots on here of people feeding scrub jays and so can only assume it is not common knowledge.
Of course there are 1000's of species of animal on this planet that are threatened by people in much worse ways than feeding them.
Rob
