    Nice pose and eye contact. I would suggest darkening the BG hills a bit to emphasize the bird, especially the head. It could also use just a bot more sharpening. Probably it is sharper in print and the web compression is biting you here.

    You've done a nice job of conveying the Bosque habitat. I like the Southwest color palette. I also like that you photographed the bird while it was flying towards you. I'd like to see some more underwing detail. Speaking of detail, the wing on our right has good detail but the rest of the bird could stand additional sharpening. Did you run NR on the bird?

    The bird coming at you and the BG are great. The light angle is not ideal and I agree bringing out more details in the shadows using curves and/or S/H.
