The Sandhill Cranes at Vierra Wetlands were too tame for full-body images with this setup so I took a few portraits instead. :) The cranes had been foraging and I chose to leave a few bits of vegetation on the tip of the beak. I did not apply any saturation to the reds in post-processing. 40D, 500 f/4 +1.4X, 1/640, f/6.3, ISO 400. Comments are welcome.

Man is that ever a red head Steve. Quite surprising the difference between the birds there and up here. I have a very similar image from yesterday i will post in a few minutes. The bg works very well with the bird. I may have tried bit more off the top. Very nice. Dave

Nice colors, contrast and details. Your pose and head angle are perfect and your BG really compliments the bird. I love the colors, especially that orange eye. No problems for me, I would be proud to have this image in my library:).

You've got to remember birding in Florida is like taking pictures at our local Zoo's. :D:D:eek:

Steve, I like the comp on this portrait as well as the nice BG. Now come back home and give yourself a challenge. ;):D

Hi Mike. I agree with you about the zoo part. :) Up here, I'd consider myself lucky to get within 100 yards of a crane. They are one of the wariest birds I know. Actually, I am home - tomorrow I'll post a picture of swans which was a bit more challenging. :)
