One more post before I head back to the forest. In addition to getting the birds flying I really want to get nice shots of them perched too. Here is one that I was happy to get from Tandayapa Bird Lodge - an amazing place to photograph this species of hummingbird (and about 15 others).

    Camera Model: Canon EOS 50D
    Shutter speed: 1/125 sec
    Aperture: 8
    Exposure mode: Av
Flash: On - 2 flashes for fill
    ISO: 400
    Focal length: 700mm

I agree just stunning. Love the pose and the outstanding BG. Love that we have such a wonderful view of the tail. Congratulations Glenn on a fine image.

Cool bird, details and exposure control. I'm not too crazy about the end of the perch, it is a bit distracting and also wish for a more uniform BG.

I love the even light on the bird and a great en face view of the tail. Any flight pics of this species to show us ?
    Have fun.

The bird is so stunning I didn't even notice the BG and top of the perch when I first looked at it.

The bird is stunning indeed, and too bad about the top of the perch as Axel states, it does seem to distract from the hummingbird.

When I see a bird this beautiful, with the amazing pose and detail that you captured....that's what my eyes ares are drawn to. Axel's suggestions may improve your image, even more, but my-my...this is a beauty!

This is a fantastic bird and a great photo of it. I pretty much like everything about it from the pose to the colors to the sharpness and the BG. Please keep posting when you get back from the forrest :-).

Oh wow, you got the metallic reflection in the plumage and the great eye too
    in an incredible pose. Nice!
If I had to criticize I would say I wish the dark spot in the left BG wasn't there,
    otherwise perfect...
    Congrats!

Absolutely stunning bird. Like the others, I'm not wrapped in the dark spot on the left, but that would be easy enough to change if you wanted to. Thanks for showing us your lovely shot of this gorgeous species.

Fantastic Glenn, I would not change a single pixel on this image. I like the head turn a lot and the perch works fine against that nice green BG that compliments very nicely the bird´s plumage. DOF is nailed and I like the effect of the light reflecting on the throat and painting in green part of the bill. Flash use is perfect. Can´t wait to see more of your images :-)

The stunning detail is perfectly paired with the eye contact. I envy you your time down there making such wonderful images.
