Normally I do not like dark backgrounds, but I thought this offset the color and detail. Makes it look like a studio portrait.

I agree, the dark BG does show the colours off well. I like the pose with the slight head tilt. -2/3 EC on the flash has worked well. What was the BG?

    Background was distant dark woods.
A lot of the times in this situation there is a tendency to over flash-I know because I have been there.

Beautiful capture and the dark BG makes this a very striking image. Excellent detail , color and pose Charles. Thanks for sharing.

Well done with EXP, pose, and BKGR. Was this at a feeder set-up?

Yep-my SW corner of my yard is a set up with perm blind(my wife calls it my"Sanford and Sons" look) but it is screened from house and rest of yard so I get by with the look.

Thanks Chas. That's what I figured. You gotta do better with the perch selection....

Actually Art this was not my set up perch but one I had broken and set to side never dreaming something would balance on end like this.
    Oh well !

You gotta love that. In ABP II I think that I wrote something like this: not only do you have to give them perfect perches to land on but you need to eliminate all of the bad places. And if I did not write it I have said it 1000 times....
