    Techs:

    I had to adjust file size to almost 50% quality to post. Never had this issue before. The image looks very grainy as a result?

    D40
    400MM 5.6
    Beanbag
    1/1000
    f/5.6
    ISO=500
    BB = -3
    EV = -1/3

    I intent to purchase NN soon and use it to, well reduce noise?
    I still struggle with the entire selection process to adjust the bg. In this case, some blur and NR might be helpful. As a general rule, I don't process images partially blurred. In this case, her beautiful primaries won me over.

    CC welcome and encouraged.

    I think reducing the size may have ahd something to do with it Jeff, also the ISO will give you noise. I did a NR with NN and sharpened the eye a bit. I love this shot, and have always wanted to get a shot like this to showcase the feathers. Very nice. Is this close to full frame. Denise mentioned the closer you can get to the 200 kb size the less grainy it will appear too.

    Hi Jeff what did you use to reduce? Bicubic sharper seems to do the best for reducing, smooth is the default which is best for enlarging.

    Tech wise the flash setting is not doing much, with the 1/1000 sec shutter speed your light reach is one fourth. With the BB you double the distance but still that is only half, now reduce that half by the -3.

    I find it amazing you were able to focus on the bird and make such a sharp image !!! Beautiful pose Just the large crop hurts image quality.

    Jeff, You got a great position going on w/ the tail open and the HA good- I agree w/ above comments, I think you could fix some of this in PP. but getting the best image possible in camera is the key. I think you did a great job capturing the unique pose! I don't have one w/ the tail open. Jackie did a very nice job on the re-post!

    Al, my mistake. There as no BB in this image. I thought about your comment and returned to the meta date. The bb was used on another set of shots.

    I have been searching for the right work flow between LR II and CS4. It just dawned on me, I made the crop (maybe 20%) and reduced the saturation in LR II,..then saved to PSD for CS4,..then imported the PSD format into CS4 and exported as a JPEG to post. I have just started using the PSD format.

    Moreover:
    I imported the image from the 40D into LR II in Canon's Raw format,...made crop and color adjustment in LRII and saved as a PSD file,...then imported the PSD into CS4,...sharped the eye and did some minor br healing,..then exported in JPEg . Could the format changes cause the file to enlarge. What file formats should I use in the interface between these three phases: (LRII)---> (CS4)--->(Post/Print)?

    Forgot to mention:

    Al, I just kept reducing the image quality in the LR II export process until it was < 200kb (e.g., 90%,...80,...60,..50%). Historically, I could set the hight and width to 1024 and 800 and away it went, not today? Again, this is the first time I used the PSD file format between LRII and CS4?

    Jackie, great post, much better than mine, thanks to you, Al and denise for the great suggestions.

    Jeff..Not sure how you are down sizing but in CS4 you can take any image, tiff of PSD size it to 1020 long side and then use save for web?? When you do that make sure it is also set to convert to jpg and sRGB, does the whole thing nicely. Did what I said make a lick of sense?

    One heck of a catch on the Card and Jackie did a super re-post!

    Nonda,

    Maybe my workflow is wrong (LRII PSD - export ---> CS4 PSD - import----> LRLL PSD import and JPEG export). I am talking the PSD file from CS4 into LRII for the final JPEG conversion. It is in the LRII export process where I am sizing and converting to JPEG. I will try some other methods and sort it out. Thank you for the kind words, I have come far, but have even father to go.

    Jeff, No need to send it back to LR2 after you do corrections in CS4,go under file>save for web then just set the size and I usually set the file size to 195K (there is a small tab at top right that you open and it allows you to optimize file size-then save for web, after that-then save as (however you want and send it back to LR2)hope this helps! LR2 and CS4 are both amazing programs,but to get the most out of them I usually buy a guide book or video and refer back to it-most of the programs have alot of features you'll never find on your own-patience and persistence!!! You will get it-it , you are half way there!!!
