A bird I've been trying to get a decent image of. They are some what shy. I set this perch out with the intent of enticing birds onto it. Most bird are willing to accomodate: the flicker, however...

Self critique: the BG is good, the small splash of color in the URC might distracting for some, but I like it. There are shadows playing accross the bird but small nit. Cropped in portrait because of two elements. (1) the perch is curving in a direction to the right while the bird (2) curves to the left, creating a counter balance that I like. Might have left a little too much canvas on the left. Colour and resolution are acceptable.

Hi Mark...The backround is good except I would prefer the reddish area on the right eliminated. I don't believe it's a portrait crop due to you showing the whole bird. The angle is good though. For my preference I would have liked to see a soft overall light on the subject...I don't think you left too much canvas on the left but could use a bit more on the right...

Beautiful specimen, great details, pose and setting. Adding to your own points, I would clone out the orange spot in the upper right, give it more room at the top and sharpen the perch less.
