Made this image today at my feeder. Not much light to talk about with heavy clouds and fog, but a chance to try out my new D700 at higher ISO-settings.
D700, 600/4 VR, Gitzo CF tripod and full Wimberley. ISO 800, f/8, 1/40. Cropped about 30%.
Great looking individual. Exposure perfect and the pose very nice. The lichen on the perch adds a great element of interest. This image has lots of potential...here are a couple of tweaks that I feel bring the image close(r) to it:
- I feel the perch too thick, and the empty space below it does not add anything. I cropped from below to rid that space and to make the perch "seem" not as thick.
- Image tight above - I added some canvas above (easily done with the even colored BG). In this case I used the clone stamp. You can use your preferred method.
- Image a bit washed out, surely from your self-noted fog present in the air. A contrast boost was added to give the image some needed punch. P.S. Some "eye-doctor" work was done as well (Thanks Artie for that great term). Lightened the iris a bit and darkened the pupil.
You should have cranked it up to ISO 1600 to see what it could do, ha ha, Daniel did some excellent work on the re-post, I especially like the contrast he added to give it more pop, nice work Daniel.
