    Default Northern Hawk Owl

The Owl landed about 20 feet away, so all I could do was get several portrait shots of it before it flew off to eat the vole. (the vole was still alive and squirming during this shot).

    ISO 1250, f7.1 @ 1/640 sec, +2/3 EV, Spot mtr, Canon 50D, 500mm f4.5L, Tripod.

WOW. A bird of pray with pray. It doesn't get any better then that. Fine job of capturing this with the little time you had. Great comp. and detail. Not sure what is happening with the BG. Looks like some cloning was done but needs to be improved.

Great capture! Too bad about the steep angle and I would sharpen less. Did you clone something on the left side?

You have great detail in the feathers and the sharpness is excellent. Good job on capturing the action. You have some chromatic abberation here (those blue edges around your subjects). I'm sure that this can be fixed in PS but I don't know how. Maybe someone else will post a solution.

Wow...this one caught my attention when I opened it up! The bit of motion blur in the mousey tells the story that he was not yet dead. Real cool image.

great encounter. There is noticable artifacts from some post processing action (blurring perhaps) along the top of the birds head. Then a different type along the feathers along the left side.

Thanks for the comments everyone. I will have another go at this one, because i`m not seeing any of these things you are mentioning.

Love the detail but am not sure what I'm seeing along the left edge of the NHO, but it doesn't look very natural. Would try to lighten shadows on eyes.

    Hi Ed,
Wonder when you got this! Was I there at the time and just fell asleep :-) . Anyway, I think what people are talking about is the jpeg artifacts in the background. You probably won't see them on your original. It has something to do with the conversion you used to make the picture smaller for BPN. Perhaps try a different program or compression scheme and I think that the artifacts will disappear.

    Maybe see you there tomorrow,

    Steve
