This is a fairly large crop. I wanted to get rid of some "black holes" in bg. 50D, 400/5.6 at f/8, 1/640, ISO400 Av mode. Taken on beach at point Roberts Wa.

I like it a lot Dave Good placement for the bird in frame, love the direct eye contact, well exposed and sharp. Might have preferred having the bg all of the lighter color but does look good as presented.

Space for the virtual feel looks good and excellent low angle !!!

I like the look-back pose and light. Adding to Al's observations, a slightly higher angle would have helped to see the feet and there is some lack of detail in the back plumage. Did you apply noise reduction?

    Thanks Al and Axel,
Once I posted the original and had a look at it, I thought there was a color cast, so redid the pp'n. Crop is slightly different and sorry not ready yet to get rid of black hole in bg. Yes to Axel's querry about NR, tow passes and only isolated bird on second pass. Tks for comments, Dave

Hi Dave, For WB I think that I would prefer something in between the two. Lots of plusses on this as over-the-shoulder attempts often fail but you had enough d-o-f to cover the bird and focus on the eye is razor.
