This fellow red squirrel was shot at the feeders in my yard on 7/20/08. Looking back, it would've been nice for a higher S/S, F-stop and zoomed out a little. Always learning I suppose.
PS work: Boosted darks and midtones, sharpened by masking and some with sharpen tool, boosted colors while desaturating the greens in BG a bit. Also Gaussian blurred slightly the BG and some closer spots near squirrel with blur tool.
I realize this is a tighter shot. I only slightly cropped off the left side from the original. In fact I cloned in 1/4 inch at bottom, and at the top I cloned in everything from the tip of his left ear, which was cut off slightly. Hope it works.
I like going tight and here would go tighter !!! Sharpness wise you could have raised the ISO a bit more, I know its noisier but beats blur !!! Also if you use fill flash would help with sharpness.
Processing wise might desaturate a little. btw point of focus wise is a tough decision what to go for ... eyes or nose/whiskers .. in this is no easy choice !!
Hi Stefan,
Good advise given...The first thing that catches my attention is the soft subject and the over saturation...you should be fine after the corrections are complete...also go a little tighter in frame on the crop...looking forward to your next one Stefan...
Hi Stefan,
I love the pose and the tight framing! Would go even tighter and crop it to vertical. Looks to me like it might have a bit of a blue cast. DOF looks real good.
