Alligator Painted in Canvas - Gatorland

This one from my last visit to Gatorland. What I like about this image is the reflection of the trees in the water. Looks like it was painted in canvas.

    Hope you like it.

    Canon 40D, 500mm L @ f/8, 1/400 sec, ISO 400, Manual Exposure, Tripod, Almost Full Frame.

    Thanks!

Maxis... Good angle and light on the Gator with that beautiful green reflection makes it a winner....

Having thought long and hard the only nit I can come up with is that I presume Gatorland is a zoo type of operation and this is a captive animal.

Other than that it is truly amazing and is made into someting really exceptional by the reflection in the water.

    Maxis,
Water colours. That is what comes to my mind when I see this image. I like it a lot. Its all about the feel of the image.

    Hey Maxis,
Had to reread your description to see if the water had been painted in. Great colors and texture. Really like the glint in the eye.

This is a good example of what you can do there with the captive gators, and the reflections on the water look that good.

You know I like it Maxis.

After visiting Gatorland again yesterday, I have a feeling this is NOT a Gator but a Crocodile.

    What do you guys think??

    Thanks!

Living in South Africa we do not see many alligators, but the major difference as I understand it is that the Nile Crocodile has a much longer and thinner snout.

Whilst looking into this I found this extremely odd video

    I hope this helps

    Hey Maxis,

Was great having you out this past weekend! Beautiful picture of an ALLIGATOR you have there, I so love the water reflections that we get in the Rookery. Here's a picture of a female American croc so you all can see the difference.

    Hi Mike,

It was kinda of hard to tell if it was an Alligator or Crocodile because of the angle. You are correct about the lovely reflections of Gatorland and I thank you for having me and for clarifying the subject. Big difference!

Take care and see you soon!
