I have a similar image with his head turned a little further away from the camera, but I thought this showed more character. Would I be better off with the full/true profile?

I think this inquisitive head angle works well with this pose. Nice light and good sharpness. Not familiar with the noise characteristics of the A700 but I would probably choose a base ISO of 400 to gain a bit more shutter speed or DOF. BG is nice and smooth but would be a little nicer if it were a uniform colour - a relatively small change in position may have achieved this. Cropping a little from the left to remove the dark area at the end of the perch may be an option.

    Hi AJ,

I really love this inquisitive pose too...adds a lot of character to the image. Agree with Tony's comments about the BG, and also wonder if a little more room under the bird might be good too - looks a tad tight for my tastes. I don't mind the tighter DOF - it's really sharp where it needs to be. What a great looking bird!
