This was a fun shot to take but I am having a tough time keeping the background colors from looking pixelated. I saturated them during the RAW conversion which helped. I selected the black areas and did some noise reduction on the background but it always seems to make the silhouette 'bleed' a bit. I also took out some twigs here and there...especially behind the female on the left, and I think that helped clean it up a bit. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Hey Matt,
I first did a levels adjustment........took the white slider to almost where it touched the histogram. I then selected the sky with the majic wand......got 90% of it.....and used an agressive round of noise ninja.......i then ran a bit on the base also below the birds. Just a crop (didn't like the bluish clouds that appeared in the base. Here's the result. Let me know your thoughts.
Hi Matt,
I like your composition and capture...It has balance...the base image is under exposed and the silhouettes need to be very sharp so that they can contrast and stand out from the background...Roman's repost takes this over the top, he also adjusted the colors very nicely...looking forward to your next one...
Very nice silhouette Matt and good repost Roman. I love the form and positioning of both birds. I definitely like the BG brighter in the repost, which gives some greater contrast. There still is a little blue in the repost which caught my eye, but I agree with Roman on ridding the blues from the set.
I see what you are talking about with the blues and I actually cropped some of them away but not enough...looks better without them for sure! I still need to learn a lot more of the processing involved with shots like this and thanks for the help Roman.
Agree with suggestions and fine re post by Roman. Do have one suggestion When making siluhettes make sure they outline is sharp Makes a difference !!! I like the poses and overall feel Good looking image !!
In low light situations you will generally want a HIGHER ISO - as the less light there is the slower your shutter speed and the more likey you are to get unsharp photo's.
You generally try to stay 1 over the focal lenght - IE 300MM Lens - Minimum shutter speed 1/300TH.
The noise roman is reffering to is more than likely because the original was UNDEREXPOSED. Digital will alllow you to adjust your exposure after the fact but the cost of this is NOISE introduced into the image, hence the need for noise reduction.
So try and get your exposure as close as possible to start with - use your histogram and turn on your over exposure blinkies - there are lots of great info in the educational resources forum on exposure.
