This is one of my squirrel images, taken in 2006. Like most of my squirrel images, this one was captured while I was busy doing flower macros. I am pretty sure this is a Red Squirrel in a spruce tree. We run about 4 up to 10 resident squirrels who willingly to harass humans, tease dogs and chew on building parts. Our reds are already chasing each other in pre-mating rituals :(. Oh joy :)

    C & C much appreciated.
    Cheers

    Hi Gail,
I like the composition and capture...the little guy is placed just right in frame, with a good head angle and eye contact...I like his habitat home...:D:cool: Suggestion...might want to tone down just a little the whit areas on the face and body...aside from this, I love it...

Gotta love those pineys, tis a Red:-) ( pineys=what we call Reds in this neck of the woods but applies to Douglas to). They are vocal and fearless, gets them into quite a bit of trouble.

Really cute Gail!!! Agree with Gus on all points.

My personal nick name for these guys is 'cockroaches with teeth' and I have a few scars to prove it;)

    Gail,
I love this image. I like the body angle and eye contact. The squirrel fits into its environment but is not overwhelmed by it. Great image.

    Nonda,

What is the difference between a Red and a Douglas?

    God's precious light to all,

    Nonda,

I was just being lazy. I finally went and looked it up in "Squirrels of the West" by Tamara Hartson. I can see that there are a number of physical differences between the two. The main one being the color of the eye ring and the underside.

    God bless,

    Chris

Yep you got it Chris:-) Range wise the Doug squirrel is much more limited, Reds are all over the place.

BTW Reds are one of the very most fascinating of the tree sq species, quite cool little beasties.

HI Gail - agree with Gus on the techs - cute little fellow - looks like a christmas card to me.

I would darken the bg just a little to see if I could get him to pop a bit more :)

    well done
