    Default Waxwing

    Hi

Had a small flock of waxwing locally for the last couple of weeks, so I called in for a short session on my way home from work the other day. This bird did a brief hummingbird impression in the late afternoon sun while plucking berries.

    Taken with 50D with 500mm lens and 1.4 TC. at ISO 400 F7.1 0.33 EV and 1/800s

    Cheers

Well timed capture, Richard. I assume this is one of the thirteen at Wepre Park? I was amazed at the number of berries still in the area. All berries disappeared further south, around me, way before Christmas so I had given up hope of seeing any this year.
    Best of luck for 09.

Great timing with the hovering AND a berry in the bill. Good job in keeping your composure to capture this image. I normally don't mind wing blur (and I don't mind it here either) but I can just imagine this with wings perfectly frozen.

Congrats on a nice image, Richard! I'm guessing you could have gone to F/5.6 and given up some DOF for SS, nontheless a very nice image.

Great capture of this moment, the berry in the mouth puts it over the top for me. Less wing blur would have been nice but I like it as is.

Thanks for the replies and comments. I don't mind the wing blur as I feel it adds so movement to the shot. I tend to often reduce the aperature down, F7.1 in this case, when using the 1.4TC as I find it gives better results than with the lens fully wide open.

Melvin this was one of the Wepre Park flock but understand that I have now moved on having stripped the tree of berries.

    Cheers

    Rich
