    Default Nikon 300 MF lens??

    Hi
I have the opportunity to purchase an older 300mm F2.8 AIS Manual focus lens. for under a $1000.00
I have a D200 that can use this lens.
Is it worth getting a older MF lens?
    Thank you,
    Clive

Depends upon what you are going to use it for. But at 300mm I am guessing it will be wildlife in which case AF is a better choice. Capturing action with MF would be difficult.

You can get the AF-S Nikkor 300mm f/4D ED-IF Autofocus Lens for $1150. If the speed is not a big issue for you I would think that a better choice.

The Nikonians may have other recommendations.

Hi Clive I don't think its a good deal at all !!!

I would go with the 300 f 4.0 btw I also have a 2.8 VR but make much more use of the 4.0 since its small enough to carry along with longer lenses in a small waist pouch !!

    Thank you Robert and Alfred,
I will be looking for a 300 f4. I have a nice 70 to 300 VR but there are times when it is slow. It would be nice to add a TC sometimes too.
    Take care,
    Clive

    Clive,
If it is an ED lens it will produce beautiful images.
Non-ED lenses tend to have too much CA for my liking.
