Image created on a very cloudy March morning....the sun had just cracked the horizon through one tiny slot in the clouds and I had to apply +2.3 EV compensation in order to light the subjects somewhat. It was totally cloudy behind the subjects on this morning.
The background was ever so slightly grayish in the original file, but I lightened it during processing as most of the sky was blown out due to the added EV compensation anyway.
It is a fair crop and there is some noise, but this has been a very popular image in sales at shows.
I almost chucked this when I first saw it.....
Nikon D2Xs, 500 AFSII, TC14EII ISO 800, f6.3, 1/500, Matrix with +2.3 EV compensation.
These ducks are so fast and colorful. Love the wing positions which balance the image very well. However, I would like to see more details in the wings. I see a lot of jpg artifacts which makes the image looks somewhat like a painting.
Interesting...the artifacts are one of the biggest reasons I almost dumped this....and also probably the biggest reason it sells well...everyone accuses me of being a water color painter with this and some like it.
I have learned to go with what the customers like :)
