I just used the lens pen that Mr. Morris sells and it worked like a dream. It was easy and quick, and the supplies are inexpensive.

for most cleaning use this blower:

    Giottos Large Rocket Blower

If gunk is stuck on the sensor you have to wet clean it.

1.6 camera uses type 2 swab

NOTE: B&H Photo also sells the sensor swabs

I have used the lens pen/ giotto rocket blower kit that Artie sells and it worked very well for me. He has great instructions that come w/ it.

Since changing to a lens pen and rocket blower, I have not found the need to a wet clean in two years.

A great accessory but not a necessity is a sensor scope like Delkin's (http://www.delkin.com/products/sensorscope/). This let's you look into the camera and see the dust. Great for infield cleaning but regardless of location, you do not have to clean the sensor, make an image of a blank surface and then look at the image on the computer to see if it is clean then do that all over again if it is not clean. Use the scope, look inside and if clean, you will see that.

    BAA field store has them.

Hi Renate if you ever get to the point you need wet cleaning send the camera in for cleaning !!! Shouldn't get to that point btw if you get the LensPen for Artie he will include a detail guide on how to use it !!! .... btw the scope is also a must, saves a ton of time and aggravation !!!

From my experience the Giotto Blower does a great job.

If this misses anything then I use Visible Dust products

    http://www.visibledust.com/

The sensor loupe is exremely useful, as is the artic butterfly.

    Thanks for all the advise

My 50D and 5D are beyond the blowing with the pump...both cameras need cleaning

I ordered the Belkin scope (thanks Robert for the tip)

    I will first try SensorKlear

If that does not do it

    I have swap 2 & Eclipse for 50D

    swap 3 & Eclipse2 for the 5D.

FWIW, Southern Photo in North Miami Beach will clean your sensors while you wait and they are authorized Canon service center. I know you're in SW Florida, so it would be about 2 hour drive I would think. YOu may want to consider that as an option.

I can be quite cavalier about replacing the rear covers on my lens that reside on my truck seat or droped into my TT whip-it-out, when on the street or in the field. My sensor cleaning consists of a Rocket Blower, a VisibleDust Arctic Butterfly that handles most dust issues and a lens pen for the really stuck stuff.

Just for the record book we carry the Lens Pen Combo Kits, the large Giotto's Rocket Blower, the micro-fiber cloth to clean the tip of the smaller pen before using it, and the Delkin (not Belkin) Sensor Scope to save you ten minutes with each cleaning and make it necessary to clean only the dirty portion of the sensor: http://www.birdsasart.com/delkin.htm#Sensor%20Scope And, as mentioned above, each purchase of a Lens Pen Kit comes with our painstakingly detailed instructions so that you can clean your sensor confidently and quickly: http://www.birdsasart.com/lenspens.htm

    Well,

I had my first experience with sensor cleaning.

the 5D method went well with Delkin scope & Eclipse 2..the scope makes it's real easy...

    BUT

    the 50D is another story

the scope on the 50D sensor works like a kaleidoscope

    Can't see any stops..

the only way I see the spots is the old fashion way camera & lens with white paper or sky:)

maybe some body else can confirm that!

    50D sensor

the image was taken with the lens on camera...

threw the scope I see the image without the spots

Hi Renate, I repeat, you should be using the small Lens Pen to clean your sensor not the wet method (Eclipse).

AS for the 50D, all that you need to do is give your eye a moment to adjust. The specks are just as evident on a 50D sensor as they are on a sensor without all the colors...
