Ken,
I love the the way the Cheetah on the left has formed a nice curve. I like the composition. The togatherness shows their bonding. Good one. Thanks for sharing.
Good looking image for all the reasons mentioned about but I find it to be flat looking. I reposted here with a local contrast enhancement (http://www.birdphotographers.net/for...ad.php?t=20434) using USM set at 20/50/0. I then selected the sky, refined the feathering and masked it out.
Thanks for that an interesting repost, I will look at the thread. I see what you mean about my version, but I find the saturation in the repost a little too much.
My goal was to demo the enhancement that LCE can achieve. The increase in saturation can occur but I feel that it was more a function of going back and forth with the downloaded image and resaving as a JPG, etc. I noticed the saturation issue but did not mention it knowing that you could correct per your taste.
A little reduction on the saturation and playing around with the LCE settings and you will get it perfect. :)
Gotta love this subject and composition! I like the soft light, but you might pop it with a bit more contrast, though the African pallette of early/late soft light sometimes looks better to me in a flatter rendition-if that makes sense. Very nice!
It's a termite mound, but I have no idea as to what type of termite. They are very common place in this area of Botswana. They are a favourite spot for Cheetahs to rest on and obtain an elevated view of their surroundings, looking for prey or danger.
I will look at the contrast situation, and if I can get an improvement post it here tomorrow, it is allready late in SA.
Hopefully a final repost, I have boosted the contrast and must admit it looks better, but whether it represents the actual scene is still a little unclear to me.
