    Default Juvy Northern Goshawk in Flight 2

    D300 200-400 + 1.4TC @320mm hand-held. Manual exposure mode, no flash. ISO 1600 f5.6 1/800 sec.

    Cropped for composition purpose plus usual post-processing steps. Cloudy day. The goshawk was flying low over a frozen pond.

    Terrific capture Desmond. I love the intense, fantastic, and killer stare of the goshawk. The soft light and white BG works really fine for me and the texture and position of the tail is to die for. You did a very good job getting shrap this guy when he was approaching to you. Some noise in the wing tips and I would try to rework the image applying a less sharpening. I can´t wait to see more of thi sseries so keep on posting. :-)

    Quite the intense stare on this guy. In addition to Juan's comments I will mention that there is some blue being cast on your subject (most likely being reflected from the snow). A favorite technique of mine when I see a cast on a bird that does not naturally have that colour on it is to pull the saturation down completely...but on that colour channel only. In this case blue and cyan channels only (you can QM the bird if you don't want to affect the surroundings).

    Very cool pose and details, another vote for removing the blue cast.
