David, did you run some heavy noise reduction on this image? All the fine detail is missing from the Cottonwood branches and Bald Eagle feathers...even in the original and it makes the image look a bit painted. The cleaned up version certainly helps to focus in on the eagle. I do like the back over the shoulder glance too. I wish for a slightly lower angle...this is a bit steep...but I certainly understand that eagles along midwestern rivers and reservoirs are not nearly as cooperative as those found up in a few spots in Alaska! Good luck continuing to photograph these eagles.
I have to agree with the above coments. The shooting angle is a bit step and the bird is very tigh in the frame. the Bg is very busy to my taste. Next time try to look for a better shooting angle and cleaner BG. The eye looking over the shoulder is very nice. Keep them coming :-)
I sorta like the almost painted look but not the lower half of the eye which looks partially obstructed or the uneven lighting.
