Eagle in flight at Padilla Bay

It seems like I waited forever to get a shot of an eagle in flight with some freshly caught prey in it's mouth. There are many things I like about this shot however having said that I do wish some things came across better. Guess beggars cant be choosers.

P.S. Oh by the way the image is cropped

The biggest detriment to this image is the harsh light and especially its' angle...if the sun was behind you instead you wouldn't have most of the dark plumage blocked in shadow. Quite an unusually small prey for this guy!!

The small fish probably didn't impress the chicks. :) I like the eye contact and the fish really adds to it. Light angle has been mentioned and the bird looks a bit soft on my monitor.

Congrats on capturing this one with it's prey. I agree about the angle of light, and the softness may be due to the amount of crop? Hope you're out there capturing more images of these great birds and have more to share soon.

Thanks for the feed back everyone. There is a bit of back story here, my wife and I we returning by car from the other side of the bay when we spotted the eagle atop a tree. I stopped the car and jumped out, by the time I was within camera range the Eagle took off out of sight. Thinking I was SOL I turned back to the car when I heard a splash. I reeled around and fired off a few frames. The waters edge is a sharp steep drop so I could not see the Eagle bagging the fish. Mind you this all happened in about three to four seconds.
