    Default White Ibis Portrait

Taken at Lake Morton in Lakeland last year.

    Nikon D300, Tamron 200-500 mm at 500 mm, 1/400 sec, f/6.3, ISO 800, with SB800 flash.

Liked the background, and wanted to emphasize blue eye of the ibis by doing this as a portrait. Cropped for head/eye position, and diagonal beak/bill. Waited until now so you'd forget the great, somewhat similar ibis shots that Blake Shadle (and I believe Mrs. Blake) submitted last year.

Good EXP, clean whites, scruffy subject, good use of flash. Had the bird turned its head back towards the camera the image would have been stronger.

I agree with Artie on all his points. I would also crop even more from the top (about close to half of the space between top of head and edge of frame). I feel this would strenghten the composition. Well done on the exposure!

Exposure control and details look great, head angle has been mentioned.
