    Default Landing NHO

    Hi :)

Here's a shot taken a morning just after a light snow fall , that helped me to add a touch to the scene

I cropped 40% of the image for the compo. the bird was centered.

Excellent Capture, The direct eye contact is nice. the snow really adds much to the composition! Do these guys often fly in the daytime there?

You did well croping this image to avoid subject centering. The Bg is a litle bit busy but I think it works in this case because the combination of criptic plumage and busy BG enhaces the feeling of habitat integration (the colors and textures in the Bg matches very well with the plumage of the bird). I like the mood of the scene and the intense stare of the bird. :-)

Great mood created here. I think a vert. crop would make the overall image less busy while still keeping the mood that has been set. Eye contact is FANTASTIC!!!!

Not only do they hunt in the daytime in that area, but in every area they live. NHO's are different than most Owls in that manner as they tend to hunt more by sight than by sound. We have this species in northern MN mainly during the winter months and they will be right out in front of you, its neat to see.

Dom, I love the snow and the pine tree the NHO is on! :) I am not crazy about the comp and all the space on the right hand side. I wonder if you had more room to the left in your original version what types of crops you could pull from it?

Sure I have space to left as you can see on my original. There's many way to compose my picture but I choosed to keep the falling snow at right bottom corner on my croped version.

    here's the original

    Have a nice day

Thanks for posting the original, Dom. :)
Maybe some others can chime in, I was thinking something more like this and with it you keep that falling snow in the image. You could clone out the top of the left pine tree if it going out of the image bugs ya.

I just noticed that when I pulled it in and did a re-size in Imageshack it made the image all whacked out... ignore that and see what you think of this comp.

Cool pose, perch, details and eye contact. The BG is a bit busy and I would go for a vertical crop like this.
