    “Waiting For Instructions”

This young fellow was helping his wife build a nest for the babies. He was flying back and forth bringing twigs and branches to the nest. I decided to capture this intense moment as he was looking at her waiting for instructions. The couple reside at Wakodahatchee Wetlands in West Palm Beach County. They were painted with a Nikon D70s using a Nikkor AF-S 300mm f/4 D IF-ED lens, and a Nikkor 1.4 T/C.

    Image Solution:
    focal length @ 630mm / exposure mode @ aperture priority / matrix metering / ISO @ 400 /1/1250sec - f/5.6 / exposure comp @ +0.7EV / white balance @ auto / AF Mode @ AF–C, dynamic range /color mode @ sRGB / tone comp @ +1 degree / hue adjustment @ +1 degrees / saturation factor @ +2 degree / no speedlight – ambient light / no tripod - hand held /

    Comments greatly appreciated…

Gus, I love the colors in the BG they compliment the bird nicely, and the composition is nice. A very intense stare indeed!

Very nice Gus. Nice soft feel to it and I like how the head/bill is isolated against the soft blue sky. Must have been fairly close. Dave

Gus, you, who have helped me so much, get my first criticism . . . 'taint fair. I think the neck color and position causes an apparent visual separation from the heron's body, and, for me, that is distracting -- it appears to me as two separate images rather than one. (But then maybe I'm simply having my glass of wine too early in the day.)
