A Sanderling photographed on Sanibel Island in early January. The substrate, composed almost entirely of shells, is not atypical at this location. 40D, 500 f/4, 1/2000, f/6.3, ISO 250. Comments are welcome.
Well done. Your subject is well lit and has a great pose. I love the effect produced by the shallow DOF. However, I find that the bird's shadow is mildly distracting and you might consider toning it down in PS. This is a minor concern and I would be proud to have taken this one. Keep up the good work.
I like the light, details, head angle and use of DOF. I think an extremely low angle would have made it even better to avoid the water/pebble line going through the bird.
Yes, right on the sand would have yielded an all blue BKGR. Good suggestion by Joel about lighteing the shadow a bit.
