Watching the Great Blue Herons is always fascinating to me and this particular image seemed to show a real submissive action on the part of what I believe was the female although I have no way of knowing for sure. Hope you enjoy this interaction.

Lovely interaction and eye contact between the birds. I like the sky detail in the BG. I might try and pull a bit more detail out of the shadows. Well done, Judy.

Great interaction and details, I would put the birds a bit higher in the frame.

Hey Judy! Nice to see that couple interacting. She's always on the eggs when I show up. I'm heading to Apoxee Park on Sunday. Have you been there?

Judy - The success of a nature photograph is dependent on subject appeal, good technicals, and a strong composition. The magic of a nature photograph requires that success but awes you with great subject interaction.

    Yours is magic!

I agree this is super but I can't tell you the torture of seeing images of breeding herons when we are neck-deep in snow. Anyway that's our problem.

The image is beautifully sharp Judy Lynn, and I love the light and the cloud BG. As Axel would say, I wish the branch in front of the right bird wasn't there, but what can you do. "Techs" on the image would be useful!

I think you are right. The female is on the left.

Terrific interaction against a great sky. I would lighten the iris of the bird on the right. A shame about the stick in front of the bird on the right, but it's a great image!

I especially like the head angle of the bird on the left and would like to see a smidge more room below.

Thanks Artie as I appreciate your comments. I agree more space at the bottom would be better but unfortunately I took the image this way and I am not sure how you would add more canvas unless by using quick mask ???

    Again many thanks for looking.

YAW. The only way to add to the bottom would be if you had another frame taken in the same light with more room on the bottom. Then it would be easy to expand canvas and use a QM to import. If you start thinking digitally you could have created such an image immediately after you viewed the image on the LCD and noted that you needed a bit more below the birds.
