I know the ha is off and there is a bit of a tail swing, but I was attracted to this one because of the tenative step and look in same direction. I am curious to see if it works for that reason. 50D, 400mm at 5.6, Av mode 1/125, ISO1600, EC+1. Yes, I need to start using the bb. Tks for looking. Also I believe I did add canvas to this one. Dave
Hi Dave You came up with fairly sharp image at that low shutter speed !! Glad you went to ISO 1600 and took advantage of the clean noise performance.
Pose wise it is interesting but they do look so much more attractive with the slight head turn. I know we sound like a broken record but they do. Would work on the eye, looks a little funky. btw that same image flat on the ground (if possible) would have taken a different look !!! ... love those yellow legs !!!!
Hi Dave,
I like the composition, you have good details and the background is very nice...agree with Mr. Forns on the techs...the first thing that drew my attention was the funky eye, you need to correct that..the bird looks like he's possessed...:Dlooking forward to your next one...
Hi Dave - agree with the masters on the techs - especially the eye. Composition is good.
Do try shooting at a lower angle - it will make a huge difference to your shots - means you are going to get muddy, wet, dirty and covered in poop - but you will be glad you did.
Thanks folks. Not sure why the eye is like that, I have another and the eye detail is more pronounced with half the eyelid showing, perhaps reflected light. Getting lower would have been a very cold and wet experience with temps just below freezing and a brisk, cold wind coming in off water. I'll try again in June.
I think it is a final pass of Topaz Denoise which gives the water the nice look.
Dave
At first glance I too thought the eye was funky, however, with a close look I think you caught a precious moment perfectly, the eye in the top corner looking up questioning, "How come it is so cold, snowy and foggy in the lower mainland this year?"
Personally I can never remember seeing 3+ feet of snow without going up Grouse or Seymour . . . ever!
I love your capture, and the only way you would catch me on my belly in that piercing cold you only find on the coast is in a heavy duty wet suit . . . brrrr. Can remember in `42 coming from Dauphin at 65F below to Vancouver at zero and feeling colder . . .
Many thanks for sharing that unique capture
Uncle Gus
BTW: Everyone up your way is sending me the photo of the high buildings in Vancouver peeking above the fog as seen from top level of BP.
