    Default Common Redpoll

Taken up in northern Minnesota a month or so ago. These guys are pretty hardy little birds.

Nice singing pose and a good perch. The snow tends to draw my eye away from the bird because it's so bright. Too bad the bird wasn't sitting in front of the snow clump. Still a nice shot!

Very artfully done here Mike. My only suggestion is to crop off a bit from the bottom for web presentation to take away the bottom snow blobs. It caught my eye first thing. If you were to print this one, leave it and the Matt would cover it anyway. I love the faded dark to light background here and the open beak. He looks like he is belting a song out loud for all to hear. Love the pine cones and the fir branch for a perch. the breast seems to be warm when compared to the right side of the light background. But that is a minor observation on my part.

    All in all, nicely done.

I like the setting, open beak and BG and would tone down the highlights and sharpen the bird more.

A very pleasing comp with the diagonal spruce perch, the snow, cones, even light, and clean background. The open beak is a big plus. I would only wish for more DOF on the perch - would make a good photo great, IMO. As you say below, I do need to start working some of these northern birds. :)

I really like this image except for the bottom 1/3, I think you could crop it out and stills keep all the elements that make the image so appealing.

Very pretty composition and the singing pose is a real bonus. I agree about cropping slightly from the bottom as it would bring more focus in on the subject. Many thanks for sharing Mike.

Awesome feedback! I agree with the cropping, I had that in my mind and was struggling with it as it served as an anchor in my mind. Thanks again!!:)
