When utilizing the NearUniWB preset, it balances the color channels, thereby giving you a truer histogram readout and allowing a more proper exposure...and in doing so, allows you to push the exposure latitude further to the right without blowing channels. It actually gives you about 2/3 of a stop more over what the typical im camera uncorrected histogram allows you.
In doing so, you have to add additional compensation over what you'd typically do.
In addition, keep in mind that I'm not shooting matrix and that changes things as well.
