Western I believe and I may have cut a bit tight for some due to need for leveling. 50D, 400/5.6 at f/9, Av, 1/1250, EC-2/3, ISO 400. Little bird was feeding in gravel pool just off the tide in Point Roberts Wa.

Hi Dave. This looks like a winter plumage sanderling to me. :) I like the light, pose, sharpness, colors, and low shooting angle. The water drop also adds interest. I might tone down the lighter spots in the background as they draw my eye away from the bird. The bird is a little tight in the frame, IMO - I would add some room on the right if you have it. Well done.

Good suggestions by Steve. Like the low angle and the eye contact. The bird is nicely highlighted against the rocks and the deep blue water.

I do like the low angle and the water drop and the the image is sharpened well.

I agree that the frame is a bit too tight and also agree with the highlights.

I would also try toning down the whites on the bird just a hair and reduce the saturation on the water as it appears to be a bit too saturated (blue)

Agree with comments particularly the saturation Water looks funky Would also try using the lens wide open for blurring the bg as much as possible !!!

Like the low angle and pose Very appealing image !!!

Agree with the above, but will add that I like the inclusion of habitat.

All has been said, regarding post process I would've toned down the light areas from the BG, love that flying water drop. Congratulations!
