    Default Purple Gallinule

Taken at Wako around 4pm on the last day I was in Florida waiting to catch my evening flight back home. I was actually trying for the Gallinule walking/flying across the water.....when I found this guy with his wings spread out. I have never seen it this behavior before so even though he was in the lillies. I promise i will post an image with "more room" in the next couple of days as I was trying to minimize the significant # of highlights all around on the lillies and stems.

Canon Mark 3 with the Sigma 300-800mm lens at 731mm for 1/2500 sec. at f6.3 and ISO 800. Slight crop fropm right to take comp off center.

As always comments welcomed and appreciated.

Cool pose, details, light and setting. The leaf behind the bird is somewhat prominent but I guess it is nearly impossible to get a clean BG in this setting.

Roman, You do not need me to tell you that is one sweet image. The comp is over the top with that green leaf framing the head being perfect. Great work! Bob

I love the pose and the head turn made this one work for me, I like the ambient behind the bird but I think the dark area in the upper right corner is a bit too dark, still, great pose and detail! Congratulations!

Like the low angle, unique pose, and the clear water that allows you to see the feet. I would tone down the leaf behind the head; there's too much contrast between it and the black area to the right of it. I saw my first Purple Galinules in Florida a couple of weeks ago; never got a particularly good look at one photographically speaking.

Hi Roman. This is a species that has thus far frustrated me. Love the pose on this one and I like the habitat as well (something we see too little of, at times, here, IMO :) ) Being able to see the feet through the water is a big plus. Comp, colors, and sharpness are also nicely done.
